Announcement from Provost to Students

Dear 奥斯汀Peay Students:

Congress recently approved the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which provided funds to colleges and universities for emergency student grants. 的 关心行为 made two types of funding available to the university.

Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF我) specifies 的资金 are to be awarded to 学生 for the sole and exclusive purpose of providing emergency financial 无偿援助 to eligible 学生 for their expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and child care expenses. 的文档 these expenses will not be required.

的 Department of Education guidelines for distribution of HEERF我 state only undergraduate and graduate 学生 who are eligible to receive Federal Title IV aid can be awarded these emergency funds. This means 学生 must have a valid 2019-20 FAFSA on file with 365bet or be eligible to file a FAFSA. Federal guidance further clarifies HEERF may not be distributed to international, DACA or undocumented 学生 or to 任何 student who was exclusively taking online courses prior to March 13, 2020.

奥斯汀Peay will provide funds to all eligible 学生. 的 University will prioritize distribution of HEERF我 to our Pell Grant-eligible 学生 while also providing funding to non-Pell Grant-eligible 学生 who qualify.

的 second type of funding is called a Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG). 的 Department of Education has relaxed some of the usual restrictions on FSEOG funds in order to provide emergency funds to a broader base of 学生. FSEOG有 same guidelines as HEERF我, except 学生 who were exclusively taking online courses prior to March 13, 2020, may receive these emergency funds.

奥斯汀Peay will begin distributing FSEOG funds on May 8. Distribution of the HEERF I funds will occur during the week of May 11. An email will be sent to your Austin Peay email account with specific information. In addition, details will be available on our COVID-19 site at www.阿卜苏.edu/coronavirus.

We are reserving additional funds for 学生 who may meet Federal Title IV eligibility requirements, but who have not already filed a valid FAFSA. We are awaiting further guidance from the Department of Education about options for 学生 to meet requirements if the student does not currently have a valid FAFSA on file.

We are working to get these funds to you as quickly as possible.

的 CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act included funding allocated for 学生 whose lives have been disrupted due to the COVID-19 virus.   奥斯汀Peay is following the guidance provided to us by the Department of Education.

It has been determined you are eligible to receive a portion of this funding referred to as the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) in the amount of $                    .  的se funds will be applied directly to your student account and the full amount will be paid to you.  If you owe a balance to the university, you are still responsible for paying the balance.  You will receive these funds by direct deposit (if you have signed up) or by check, which will be mailed to you.

的 Department of Education has specifically instructed these funds are “for the sole and exclusive purpose of providing emergency financial 无偿援助 to 学生 for their expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child-care expenses”.

We consider 学生 who were not previously attending all online classes to have experienced some disruption and expense due to the unexpected move to an all online format for their coursework.  Your acceptance of these funds is considered confirmation you have a qualifying expense.

We hope this finds you well and we look forward to seeing our 学生 back on campus!
